Photoluminescence of anatase and rutile Ti[O.sub.2] particles
Article Abstract:
Nonaqueous reactions between titanium(IV) chloride and alcohols are used for the synthesis of anatase Ti[O.sub.2] particles, while rutile Ti[O.sub.2] particles are synthesized in aqueous media by acidic hydrolysis of titanium(IV) chloride. The energy of the up-converted photoluminescence (PL) spans the range of energies exhibited by the normal PL of the Ti[O.sub.2]. It is found that intraband surface states are found to be involved in the up-conversion-PL (UC-PL) process.

Effect of dopants on grain coalescence and oxygen mobility in nanostructured titania anatase and rutile
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to investigate grain growth and the anatase-to-rutile phase transition in nanostructured titania using electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and differential thermal analysis. Thermal analysis highlighted that oxygen mobility in the titania lattice is affected by doping and related to the inhibition of grain coalescence and phase transition.

Anisotropy in the electrical conductivity of rutile Ti[O.sub.2] in the (110) plane
Article Abstract:
A four-point probe is used to measure the bulk electrical conductivity of a Ti[O.sub.2](110) single crystal in all azimuths parallel to the (110) plane. It is observed that with the highest bulk conductivity direction being parallel to the (001) direction, a distinct anistropy in the conductivity is found.
